A fabulous one dish meal; a thick hearty stew with incredible dumplings cooked right in the crockpot!
It's very important that you do not lift the lid while cooking the dumplings; you'll add significant time to the cooking process if you do.
Mix beef, carrots, celery, onions, diced tomatoes, mushrooms, red wine, 1 tsp thyme, ground mustard, black pepper, and water in crockpot. Cover and cook on low 8 hours or high 4 hours. Thicken stew with flour or cornstarch if desired.
Combine baking mix, 1/2 tsp thyme, sage, and milk in bowl. Drop by spoonfuls onto stew. Cover and cook on high 35-40 minutes.
